What’s new in Linux Mint 19.2?

Nemo now supports fixing of files and folders

As mentioned in the feature overview of Linux Mint 19.2, last update of this highly successful distribution is quite modest. Most of the changes concerns the improvement of features added in versions 19.0 and 19.1.

So if I had to describe the changes in one line, I would say “the same, only better”- in a good way.

Linux Mint uses Cinnamon 19.2 version 4.2.x as desktop by default. This minor update does not introduce radical changes (phew), but declares that it will run faster and use less memory than previous versions Linux Linux Mint Linux Mint 19.0 and 19.1 .

There are also some improvements in performance, a file Manager, Nemo, after this update it will use less memory . It also allows you to “pin” files and folders, and supports advanced scripting.

Other significant changes:

  • Improved control of the kernel in the Update Manager
  • The software Manager can add “missing” GPG keys
  • The software Manager can scan/remove duplicate resources
  • Reduced consumption of RAM for Cinnamon
  • Optimization window Manager Muffin is more “smooth” feeling
  • Mint menu now detects duplicate applications (for example, flatpac, snap)
  • New settings for the scrollbar.
  • New tool “Recovery Boot” is included in the image
  • Recent Documents added by default
  • Blueberry applets will allow you to connect/disconnect paired devices faster
  • Xed switching supported comment and block
  • New Wallpaper
  • Tricks for the Mint GTK

Desktop Linux Mint Cinnamon is very similar to the WIMP – Windows, icons, menus and pointers, templates – all this may explain why this distribution is especially popular among those switching from Windows to Linux.

And based on the clarifications proposed in “Tina”, this trend looks set to continue.
