Continuing my story about the safety of operating systems of family of Linux, today we’ll talk about how you are installing Dr Web Linux, for example Ubuntu. It would seem that for this OS shouldn’t exist viruses, however, due to the rapidly growing popularity of the product from Canonical Ltd. and Linux in General, attackers have begun to develop malware for it.
Next, go directly to the installation of our antivirus. For clarity, we divide it into several stages.
How to install Dr Web on Ubuntu
Step 1. Add repository
The software company Dr. Web for Linux is in a special repository developers. When we add it to your system, then using a standard package Manager will be able to install the desired antivirus, the dependencies are automatically resolved.
All further commands must be run as administrator. For this you need to either use the command change user su, or resort to the command run as another user sudo.
Since we will be working with terminal in Ubuntu, let’s first run it. For this we can use the main operating system menu or shortcut, namely Ctrl + Alt + T.
Start adding the repository. In this case, it is protected using a digital signature. Import the key using the following command:
wget -O - http://repo.drweb.com/drweb/drweb.key | apt-key add -
The next step for the repository you must add it to the file /etc/apt/sources.list. To do this, enter one more command:
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
# deb http://repo.drweb.com/drweb/debian 11.1 non-free
What we have done above can be done in automatic mode. To do this we need to download and open a special DEB-package is available here.
Downloadable package and at the request of the browser open it in the standard application to install the deb:
Confirm your intention by touching marked on the screenshot button:
Installing the repository Dr Web Linux will last only a few moments. Wait for its completion.

Step 2. The Installation Of Dr Web
Now you can go directly to how to install Dr. web for linux. For that, again, let’s use the standard terminal, which in Linux you can do almost anything:
Initially, update the package cache, in order to receive information from the newly added repository. To do this, launch the terminal (as it is we have written above) and will use the standard command:
sudo apt-get update
When the cache is updated, you can go directly to install anti virus in Linux. To do this, in the terminal enter the following command. As a result, the system prompts to confirm installation of the selected program, which we will have to answer to a Latin letter Y and pressing Enter.
sudo apt-get install drweb-workstations
This will be followed by the installation process, the completion of which we will have to wait.
When our antivirus will be installed, its icon will appear in apps menu. Let’s run the program and perform initial setup.
Step 3. Antivirus settings
Our software is almost ready to go, however, before we proceed, let’s make a few important settings:
Run the program and produce its activation. Enter the license key in the designated field on the screenshot and click the activate button.
Also the program can be run as a trial version for 30 days.
Another important point is the updating of antivirus signatures. The process should start automatically after opening the program, but if not, go to the point marked in the screenshot.
Let’s do a full scan. In fact, before the antivirus was added to the system, it can lie dormant viruses. Go to the tab Scanner.
Here we need to choose full scan. Fast mode does not guarantee the detection of all threats.
Starts scanning, the duration of which will depend on the size of the file system and the performance of the computer as a whole.
During validation it is better to close all programs save their data and not work with PC. This will speed up the process.
