Torment: Tides of Numenera – a fascinating scientific and magical world

The developer of the famous “Planescape: Torment” has decided to release a sequel of isometric computer role-playing games. “Spiritual successor” called “Torment: Tides of Numenera”. According to official information, the game will be released late next year and will support three operating systems: Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

The game takes place in a fantasy world where science virtually indistinguishable from magic, and these two directions of human knowledge, so to speak, go “hand in hand”. The world of “Torment: Tides of Numenera” is not similar to one another, the storyline is laid out in detail and rich narrative focused on the characters ‘ personalities, will not leave indifferent neither beginners or experienced players. In “Torment: Tides of Numenera”, as in real life, the player’s choice determines the future, i.e. which side of the story will develop. The player will get the role of one of the deadly shells of the God who, ageing changes its embodiment.

Flows and numerary

Crises, or extended battles

The creators of “Torment: Tides of Numenera” has decided to expand the concept of battles and introduced in the games use the concept of crisis. The crisis is an important event that brings to the player a certain test. Each battle is part of a crisis, but the crisis is not only the battle but also the gameplay outside of them. Crises very well fit into the basic idea of the game, which in turn is based on elections and their consequences.

The development of the game Torment

On the development of a new game, a spiritual successor to “Planescape: Torment” became known in 2013. However, the developer failed to obtain a license for the game and role-playing system, so I had to use a custom setting of Numenera.

From 6 March to 5 April 2013, there was a fundraiser in support of the game on the Kickstarter project. The initial goal of the developers, 900 thousand dollars was reached. After that, the company put the “additional targets” and collected in the budget of game of 4.18 million dollars.

The tentative date of launch 4-quarter 2015. Presumably the game will be available via digital distribution service Steam.
