Skippy-XD is a standalone application which provides a means of selecting open Windows simultaneously displayed as thumbnails. This effect is known as the Expo (Expose), is included in the composite window Manager KWin and Compiz (formerly Beryl). Thumbnails of Windows not static and are generated in “real time” (including live video), however, the performance of the used window Manager is not reduced.
Skippy-XD is intended for use in production environments and window managers do not have this effect (such as MATE, Xfce and LXDE / Openbox, Fluxbox , etc), but supporting compositely. The app runs in the background (daemon), can be set from the command line and/or in a configuration file. To run the effect can be in any convenient way (click on the toolbar, a keyboard combination, etc.), for navigation you can use the mouse and/or keyboard.
Skippy-XD is a modification of Skippy (version 0.5.0 from 2004 year), but uses extensions to the X11 server XDamage, XComposite, XFixes, so it works much faster and more efficient than the original version.
