net-tools — set C (si) / C++ console utilities including classic management tools network subsystem in GNU Linux operating systems.
Basic utility package net-tools: arp (used to manipulate the ARP-cache of the kernel), ifconfig (the main utility for configuring network interfaces), netstat (reports about network connections, routing tables and statistics interfaces), rarp (used to work with a RARP table of the kernel), nameif (assigning names to network interfaces based on MAC addresses) and route (work with the table IP-routing).
Package net-tools also includes utilities for working with the specific settings of hardware (plipconfig, slattach, mii-tool) and for complex settings IP (ipmaddr and iptunnel).
Composition tools net-tools in different distributions may slightly vary. At the moment, the Toolkit is deprecated and instead it is recommended to use the utility package iproute2that provides the same and even more functionality, but the syntax tools and terminal emulator are different.
