# LaTeXML

**LaTeXML** *(perl-latexml)* — set console **Perl** / **TeX Live** utility for correct conversion of **TeX** / **LaTeX** documents to various formats.

**LaTeX** is a popular set of macrodactylini *(the macro package)* of the computer typesetting system **TeX**, which makes it easier to set complex documents. The package allows you to automate many of the tasks of typing and preparation of articles, besides the basic set, there are many expansion packs *(thanks to the system’s capabilities is virtually unlimited)*.

A set of tools **LaTeXML** developed the process of creating a “**Digital library of mathematical functions**” *(DLMF Digital Library of Mathematical Functions)*, when it took the funds to convert the original **LaTeX** document in the format **XML** *(extensible markup language)*, which after correction was used to create the web site of the library.

A full “**Digital library**” should focus on the semantics of the material, so you must convert the mathematical material in content and presentation. At that time, the developers of the library haven’t found the right apps for their purposes and began developing their own, called **LaTeXML** *(version 0.1.0 was released in may 2004 year)*.

**LaTeXML** tries to accurately mimic the structure of a **TeX** / **LaTeX** document when you create **the XML file**, the document is most similar to the original and easy to edit. When processing the source document and to produce the desired result, you can specify many parameters for accurate matching of parts of the **TeX** / **LaTeX** document with the corresponding fragments in the **XML** file.

**LaTeXML** contains five utilities *(latexml, latexmlc, latexmlfind, latexmlmath, latexmlpost)*that allows you to convert **TeX** / **LaTeX** documents, not only in format **XML**, but in the formats **HTML** or **XHTML**, as well as in the format of **MathML** *(a markup language based on XML to provide mathematical symbols and formulas in documents of the WWW)*. For each utility set is available with detailed documentation.
