ifplugd is a utility running in the background (daemon/daemon) to automatically activate wired connection (Ethernet)device if the cable is inserted and resets if the cable is pulled. The same utility can be used to switch between wireless networks.

ifplugd will be useful for laptops with integrated network cards because it allows you to set the activation to hold only if the cable is really connected. Utility “default” is used ifup/ifdown, but you can trigger any action in the event of a change of interface state.

ifplugstatus — service command-line utility included with ifplugd and used to determine the state of local devices.

To configure ifplugd uses a configuration file ifplugd.conf (/etc/ifplugd/ifplugd.conf), it can be used to initiate the daemon, and configure environment variables.
