dupeGuru — specialized in Python / QT (pyqt / libxkb) graphical application for finding duplicate files on your local file system.
The user interface of dupeGuru combines three search engine that was previously released as a standalone application (standard, Music Edition and Picture Edition).
For the selected engine dupeGuru allows you to select the type of search and specify for each of these settings. In the recursive scanning selected directories all files are checked for selected parameters and the identified duplicates are displayed in a sortable list.
dupeGuru is particularly effective thanks to the use of the algorithm “Fuzzy matching“, search for duplicates is made not only on the basic parameters (name, type, size, etc.), but also their partial coincidence (e.g., similar in meaning to the file names)by specifying settings of the search algorithm for more accurate results.
One of the engines dupeGuru is focused on fast searching for duplicate and similar files in your music collection. The duplicate search is done by the set of parameters (file names, size, bitrate, length, metadata, etc…), supports work with files of most popular audio formats (MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC, etc).
Also, dupeGuru has a engine designed for searching duplicate and similar picture files. Quickly scan the selected directory (including subdirectories), check the graphic files by name, size, creation date, content and so forth, finding not only exact matches but also duplicates among the images in different formats (JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PSD, etc) and in different quality.
The list of found duplicates, dupeGuru displays in a separate window with the specified level of detail for each file you can view detailed information. There are several ways to filter results to weed out false duplicates (useful when scanning with a low threshold), the search results can be saved (in *.dupeguru file) and open, for further processing of duplicates found. The results can be exported in HTMLfile and/or text files of other formats.
dupeGuru is specially designed with safety in mind, the existing “ignore List” allows to exclude scanning of individual files and directories. The found duplicates can be deleted, moved, copied, have the ability to search and delete empty directories.
